Smart Cities Guru founder, Anil Ahuja, is a seasoned engineering professional and author of the book Integration of Nature and Technology for Smart Cities, a 2016 publication with contributing Smart Cities’ experts from around the world which explores global trends and paradigms in the smart building and smart city sectors, and offers a new approach to naturally green, technologically innovative smart buildings and city designs.
Having experienced what it was like to live in a refugee camp in India and grow up with limited resources such as power, water and food, Ahuja has dedicated his life’s work to sustainability and leading a movement to design cities and systems that will protect the earth and the people who live on it.
Ahuja is LEED Accredited and a Registered Communications Distribution Designer with considerable expertise in IT and communications design. Ahuja has more than 30 years of experience in sustainable building systems design, including the past 14 years as president of CCJM, a multi-disciplinary engineering firm providing a broad range of engineering services to the public and private sectors. Prior to joining CCJM, he served as Vice President/General Manager of the Integrated Building Services Group with a focus on the 2020 Energy Vision Program at Exelon Corporation.
He is a frequent speaker and contributor on the topics of holistic smart city development, reengineering existing urban systems and sustainable infrastructure. Ahuja serves on the board of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and is chairman for the Environmental and Sustainability Committee. As chair, Ahuja is co-developing innovation prototypes that transform teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
